Ski to Italy, have lunch, ski back!
Do you want to be challenged? Chamonix offers unrivalled off-piste terrain, probably in the world. For this reason skiers & boarders from North America, Scandinavia and New Zealanders choose to come here to extend their experience. It has several different lift areas, each of which appeal in different ways to the off-piste skier / boarder.
These off piste areas are easily accessible by traditional means (ski lifts) but can be hazardous. For this reason the best days out are in the company of a guide, who can select the best snow conditions, while protecting the safety of the skier / boarder from such factors as avalanches, crevasses, rocks etc. He or she can also tailor the day to the requirements of the party: steep descents, powder, skiing in difficult snow etc.
Boarding at the Grands Montets
Do you want great photos and a memorable day out? The Vallee
Blanche (from the top of the Aiguille du Midi back to Chamonix) is the
longest off-piste downhill run in Europe, it is 17km long and involves
around 2800m of descent. It is on a glacier and therefore it is
advisable that skiers & boarders are in the company of a mountain
guide. It offers great, intermediate skiing in a stupendous
environment, off the back of the Mont Blanc massif. Equipment, such as
harnesses, avalanche transceivers, is provided.
These are just a few ideas.
Heli-skiing
is also possible from an Argentiere /Chamonix base and is fairly easy
to arrange at short notice. Any non-skiers or beginners could of course
be catered for, either with skiing or boarding lessons, cross-country
skiing or guiding on the piste by a skier with local knowledge. For this there are a number of beginner and intermediate ski areas within the Chamonix valley suitable for all levels of skier. In
addition to this there are a number of other large ski areas within a
short distance (under an hour) - for example, Verbier(in Switzerland),
Courmayeur and La Thuile(in Italy), St Gervais, Megeve, Les Contamines
and the Portes du Soleil - to name just a few.
Going down the arete on the Vallee Blanche
Do you want to develop colleague camaraderie, spend time with farflung friends?
Chamonix
offers the ideal combination of fantastic, exhilarating activities and
scenery, and a superb range of restaurants, night-life and culture.
Not
just skiing and boarding, but ice-climbing, mountaineering,
paragliding, husky-sledding. At night the streets are alive with people
of all nationalities relaxing after a hard day on the slopes.
Give it a try!
So much to try- what about learning to ski-race?
