Off Piste Ski Safety Training Days

Overview
This is essential training for anyone wanting to ski off piste with or without a guide, and makes an ideal pre-season or early season kick off - to brush up or learn the basics and enjoy some good skiing too.

Itinerary
For a one day course, meeting time is normally around 9 o'clock at the ski area. We start with a chat about the aims of the day and then look at the equipment we need to carry. Most of the morning will then be spent training or brushing up on use of avalanche victim search equipment, before heading off to ski from about midday. This means that you just need a half-day ski pass.
During the afternoon we will focus on where to ski and how to ski it, by looking at route choices, party management and overall avalanche awareness on the hill. We finish about 4pm with a debrief.
For a 2 day course the second day will be spent looking at safety for glacier skiing, so we would hope to cover additional equipment, crevasse safety & route choice, basic crevasse rescue, skiing roped and unroped.

Venues
We meet at the Marmottons Restaurant at the foot of the Grands Montets (Lognan). Although we will usually ski at Grands Montets, ultimately the venue will be decided on the first morning. For groups staying away from Chamonix a guide may be able to travel to you - contact us for details.

Dates / Prices
Off piste safety days are available (usually) at short notice from mid Dec- mid Jan (once the lifts are open), after that it's wise to book. We will try to run 1 or 2 days per week , depending on demand. Cost is 50-80 euros per person depending on numbers.
