Alpine Splitboard Touring

These tours are for splitboarders who are looking for adventure and have the necessary backcountry riding and mountain skills.

Multi-day Alpine tours for splitboarders can be challenging, so the aim is to find ‘splitboard friendly’ tours, to maximise good riding and have a full backcountry experience, with the help of the Alpine hut system!   There are some example tours listed below, contact us to express interest in what tours we will be offering.

The Silvretta Traverse

A great area in the Austrian Alps with some fine mountains and often some good snow. We stay in 3 different mountain huts over 6 nights, with a chance to do a day tour from each hut as we go. This means we can access some great terrain for riding but also complete a classic traverse, and climb some of the fine peaks in the range such as the Piz Buin. It’s an intermediate tour and would be suitable to anyone who has covered the basics of splitboarding and backcountry riding, such as on the Splitboard Intro Course

The Western Bernese Oberland

A fantastic Swiss tour with a summit and good descent each day . There are some tough days and the full range of skills both up and down are required to complete this challenging traverse. The tour starts near Les Diabelerets, before heading up to Glacier 3000 and then over the peaks of the Arpelistock, Wildhorn and Wildstrubel, before a long descent to Kandersteg. 6 days 5 nights. It’s an advanced tour and requires a good level of fitness.

The Haute Route, from Chamonix to Zermatt

This is the most famous tour in the Alps.  For splitboarders the route can be challenging, but it’s a rewarding traverse with some great descents. I have adapted the route slightly but it’s based closely on the Verbier version of the Haute Route. It’s an advanced tour, and requires a good level of fitness and all round ability and experience. It’s not suitable for first-time splitboarders, so you need previous experience of high mountain touring and staying in huts.  The first day is a long day as you are straight into it, so there is no time to learn how to kick turn, fix your board to your pack, get boot crampons on or use an ice axe – these are skills that you should have before you come. It’s a great trip with some great descents but it’s more about the journey, and getting into the high mountains.
