Early season skills courses to learn or improve skills for safe riding in the backcountry.

This is a 4 day course for skiers or snowboarders. We use lifts everyday and  cover skills such as avalanche safety, route choice, navigation and terrain selection. We also look at safety equipment and emergency techniques for self rescue, casualty management on the mountain, including companion rescue and avalanche scenarios using transceivers. We will  cover glacier travel, glacier safety equipment and usage, and crevasse rescue. The course is mostly practical but with some theory sessions also.

It is an ideal early season starter – it gets you on snow before Xmas or early in the New Year, when the flights are cheap, and makes sure that all the safety skills are topped up for the upcoming season. The skiing will be in Morzine/Avoriaz/ Chamonix /Argentiere depending on course dates. Touring equipment can be useful, but not necessary for the course.
